Denisa Jarošová
e-Pedagogium 2025, 25(3):35-48 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.010
The COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally transformed the way teaching was conducted at all levels of education and across all subjects, including mathematics, which requires a specific approach due to its abstract nature. This study investigates how students reflect on their experiences with online mathematics instruction during this pandemic. The research was carried out in 2024 through a descriptive analysis of a questionnaire survey among 664 students of grammar schools and secondary vocational schools. The study examined not only the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning from the students' perspective but also their preferences regarding...

This issue of our journal presents two articles that, although thematically distinct, together offer valuable insights into current challenges in education. The first addresses the widely discussed topic of burnout and introduces the adaptation and validation of the Slovak version of the Burnout Assessment Tool. The second focuses on issues of language education.

Katarína Kohútová, Júlia Bačkorová
e-Pedagogium 2025, 25(2):7-23 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.006
The objective of the study is the pilot adaptation and validation of the Slovak version of the Burnout Assessment Tool. The adaptation process included three independent translations, a back translation, a meeting of the research team to synthesize it into its final form, and validation of the back translation by the authors of the questionnaire. The research sample consisted of 266 Slovak teachers. Three models were tested for their factor structure using confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that the most appropriate model (combining model quality and theoretical underpinnings) is the second-order model, with four primary factors that...
Concept of verbal attribute as a Didactic Challenge: Applying the Theory of Generic Models in Language Education
Patricie Šinkovičová
e-Pedagogium 2025, 25(2):24-37 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2026.001
This study examines students' conceptualization of the syntactic function traditionally referred to as doplněk (the Czech equivalent of the verbal attribute). The primary aim was to determine the extent to which an eighth-grade student can grasp the nature of this linguistic phenomenon through an isolated model, a method based on the Theory of Generic Models, originally developed in mathematics education. A qualitative case study approach was employed, focusing on the cognitive processes of a single student, which were explored via a semi-structured interview centred on sentences containing doplněk. Data were analysed using open coding. The findings...

Petra Lajčiaková, Adriána Strečková
e-Pedagogium 2025, 25(1):7-21 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.001
Moral distress is not absent from the school environment and the likelihood of its occurrence among teachers is very high. The aim of this research is to understand the experience of teachers with moral distress. For this purpose, nine teachers with over ten years of experience were studied. A semi-structured interview method was employed, during which respondents were encouraged to share events related to their specific experience with moral distress. The qualitative data obtained were subsequently analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis, which revealed six key themes: care for the student, objectivity, competencies, class management,...

e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(4):7-20 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.003
This study aims to analyse the visual representations in geography textbooks of secondary education in Greece. A quantitative content analysis was employed for research purposes. The sample comprised two textbooks and two student workbooks. The analysis identified a total of 1.231 visuals, including maps, photographs, artworks, data tables, charts, images, sketches, and small-scale representations. The findings revealed the prevalence of photographs and small-scale representation while raised concerns regarding the lack of captions, insufficient use of maps, and a high frequency of visuals unrelated to the text. The characteristics of visuals are assessed...
Glass ceiling as a limit for learning and self-developmentArticles
Ondřej Duda, Steve Morris, Linda Valešová
e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(4):21-32 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.004
This theoretical paper explores the 'glass ceiling' concept in education, defined as the plateau learners reach in their development, with language learning used as an example. It argues that traditional language teaching methods, with their reliance on textbooks, teacher-led instruction, and a focus on grammar and vocabulary, can contribute to this plateau by overlooking individual student progress and personal development. The study examines how the school and classroom environment, including pedagogical approaches like creating a safe learning space, providing feedback, and incorporating peer assessment, can influence this phenomenon. Using language...

Libor Prágr
e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(4):45-54 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2025.005
The integration of literature into English as a Second Language (ESL) education has long been recognized for its benefits in providing authentic language exposure, fostering cultural awareness, and developing critical thinking skills. However, traditional literary instruction often struggles to maintain student engagement, particularly in multimedia-oriented learning environments. This study examines how visual storytelling, particularly film adaptations, can enhance the effectiveness of literary education in ESL by overcoming language barriers, providing contextual support, and promoting deeper narrative comprehension. As a case study, the popular...

e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(3):7-22 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2024.011
The article focuses on explaining the concept of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS/PBIS), which is relatively new in our region. In the process of implementing this approach in Czech schools, we have designed a course whose structure is described in the article. We particularly emphasize the principles of using proactive strategies that can lead to lasting changes in undesirable student behaviour. By the end of the text, readers should be able to describe the connections between PBS and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), summarize the basic behavioural principles applicable in education to eliminate challenging behaviour, describe various functions of...
The Influence of Gender and Residence on Articulation Development in Slovak Children: A Pilot StudyArticles
Dana Buntová
e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(3):23-36 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2024.013
Speech sound disorders can develop into dyslexia and negatively impact a child's quality of life. Reliable norm-referenced tests are essential for early diagnosis and timely intervention, contingent on the composition of the normative sample. In a pilot study, we evaluated 100 intact Slovak monolingual children aged 5 to 6 using the new ARTES articulation test. The objective of this study was to examine the potential influence of place of residence and gender on the development of pronunciation skills in typically developing Slovak children. Our findings indicate that speech intelligibility, the percentage of correct consonants, vowels, and the percentage...

Aspects of the use of proctoring systems in the implementation of mass on-line testsArticles
Milan Klement
e-Pedagogium 2024, 24(1):7-20 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2024.004
One of the challenges faced by educational institutions is the integrity of online assessment, i. e. the need to conduct online testing using appropriate tools and methods. Although efficiency and flexibility of deployment is one of the undisputed advantages of online testing, it should be emphasized that online testing using online proctoring systems raises some concerns for participants, which may also have a negative impact on their results. For this reason, using pedagogical research methods and appropriate statistical methods, a research survey was conducted among participants in online placement testing to determine their readiness, but also...
